A special concert for New York did take place in Sowinskiego Park on Sept. 11, the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

Mike Urbaniak, one of the most famous Polish jazz musicians, was be the star of the concert.

There was great art and fantastic jazz improvisation. In addition to Urbaniak and his group Urbanator,

the concert also included a performance by the Aukso Orchestra under Marek Mos.

Urbaniak, aka Edmund Michalowski, is a man of many talents, who plays the saxophone and jazz violin in addition to composing and arranging music.

The musician has been living and working in New York for over 30 years. Urbaniak's musical career took off in the 1960s when he cooperated with

Krzysztof Komeda's quintet. & own Michal Urbniak Fusion for few years. After winning Grand Prix at Montreaux Jazz Festival 1971,

moving to the United States on September 11th 1973, he recorded few very successful albums for Columbia Records

and later with the biggest stars of the jazz scene, including Miles Davies, George Benson and Herbie Hancock.

Each of Urbaniak's performances in Poland is a source of timeless emotions; the audience loves him.

During outdoor concerts he played simple phrases that are catchy enough even for those without an ear for music.

He is a very charismatic person, who plays richly and not without novelty. On Sept. 11, he played with the Aukso Orchestra from Tychy,

Urbaniak performed his program with masterful style. Aukso Orchestra, conducted by one of Poland's best chamber musicians,

Marek Mos, performs classical, romantic and contemporary pieces with a particular emphasis on Polish music.

This, however, was not the first time this orchestra met the great jazzman. The chamber musicians accompany Urbaniak in a performance

of his pieces prepared specially for the anniversary of the WTC attack.

Urbanator members included: Ladora Knight-vocals, Nick Morach-guitar, Tom Barney-bass,

Don Blackman-keyboard, Troy Miller-percussion, Mika-vocals and Nato-rap vocalist.

"Don't play the music, let the music play" - Mike Urbaniak
