Mission Statement:

The mission of the Polish American Association, a human service agency, is to serve the diverse needs of the Polish community in the Chicago metro area by providing resources for changing lives, with emphasis on assisting immigrants.





History/Achievements:

PAA was founded as the Polish Welfare Association in 1922 by a prominent group of Polish business leaders and professionals who saw an urgent need for organized Polish-language social services. Today, PAA is the nation's only bilingual and bicultural human service agency providing a comprehensive range of 31 programs and services to the Polish ccommunity.



Awards received for program excellence:

Lt. Governor Excellence Award; IL Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Protection; Illinois Dept. of Human Services, United Way of Chicago, Polish American Police Association, Illinois Job Training Partnership Act Award for Vocational Training, Advocates Society; Association of Chicago Priests; IL Association of Non-Profit Organizations; Social Security Administration Commissioner's Team Award.

Chairman's Brunch in the Spring, Annual Gala in the Fall.

Programs and Services:

PAA serves more than 3,500 individuals each month through its comprehensive range of 31 bilingual and bicultural human services.

Social Services:

Crisis intervention, individual and family counseling, counseling for victims of violent crimes, battered women and children, and single mothers, support groups, parenting classes, program for men who batter, outreach and interpretation. Youth Development program, which includes life skills, substance abuse prevention, group meetings, social events and a support group for children of addicts. Senior Program includes outreach, case management, benefit information, homemaker services and friendship club. Bi-lingual intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment program, day shelter for homeless men, homeless outreach and case management. Emergency services including food pantry, clothing closet and energy assistance.

Education and Employment: ESL and citizenship classes, computer and office skills training, nursing review (CGFNS), CNA and Physical Rehabilitation Aide classes. Job development and placement services and career counseling.

Immigrant Services:

PAA offers a range of immigration services including processing of INS applications, information, fingerprinting, photographs, and document translation. PAA's Housing program offers homeownership education and counseling, seminars and referrals. Health education and outreach, screenings, immunizations, KidCare applications.
