BROADWAY MARKET CELEBRATES BUFFALO?S DISTINCTION AS
?CAPITAL OF THE PIEROGI POCKET?

Buffalo, New York ? Buffalo was recently named by Pennsylvania food company
Mrs. T?s Pierogies as the ?Capital of the Pierogy Pocket.? The award,
which came with a $10,000 check to help support cultural heritage and tourism
efforts, gave a ?stamp of credibility? to what has been common knowledge for
generations of pierogi-loving Western New Yorkers.
In honor of the occasion, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown issued a proclamation
declaring November 3, 2006 ?Pierogi Pride Day.? Truth be told, at the Broadway
Market, which has been the guardian of our community?s Eastern European food
traditions for the past 115 years, EVERY day is Pierogi Pride Day. David
Dale, President of the Market?s Board of Directors, sees the ?Capital of the
Pierogy Pocket? title as providing extra momentum for its own Come Home Again
to the Market campaign. He noted, ?The place to get authentic pierogi in
the newly-crowned capital is the Broadway Market. No other place can compare
with the quality and variety of pierogi you can choose from at the Market.?
The pierogi brands available at the Broadway Market include Ma's brand
available from Perison?s Restaurant and Malczewski's Poultry; Baker's Dozen from
SaveA-Lot Grocery; homemade pierogi from E.M. Chrusciki; Private Label pierogi
available at Max Poultry; and Nowinski brand pierogi from Camillia Meats.

Additional Details:
In the week leading up to Easter Sunday, more than 350,000 people descend on
the Market ? in search of freshly baked rye bread, butter lambs,
sinus-clearing horseradish, aromatic Polish sausages and yes, a variety of homemade
pierogies. The pilgrimage to the Market is also about a unique sense of place -
about connection to family traditions and ethnic heritage. What people
forget is that those freshly made foods and personalized shopping experiences are
available year-round. Whether you are planning for a special occasion, or
looking for a delicious ?anytime? meal, Pierogi Pride is on display at the
Broadway Market every day of the year.
The Broadway Market is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00A.M. ? 5:00P.M.
Buffalo has just been named ?Capital of the Pierogy Pocket? of America.
What better way to celebrate than to Come Home Again to the Market.
