Illinois State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka Provides Work Experience for Polish American Student

8/22/2005 - Illinois State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka Provides Work Experience for Polish American Student

(Chicago, IL) - Illinois State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka welcomed Polish American intern John Trybus of Oak Park to her Chicago office this summer. Trybus, a sophomore at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., is studying political science and journalism.

A graduate of Oak Park & River Forest High School, Trybus completed his second year working for the Treasurer. As a member of the Communications Department, he was responsible for proposing story ideas, writing press releases and articles, and implementing local and national media strategies for office events and programs.

"It was a pleasure to contribute to the good works of the Treasurer's Office again this year," Trybus said. "The Communications Department provided a wonderful challenge to me because of the diversity of the programs I was working with. It's so important to let the public know about the resources that are available to them."

Trybus particularly was involved in working with Illinois' ethnic and specialty media. He organized projects involving the "Treasured Pets" initiative, which has facilitated the adoptions of over 250 animals into new homes, as well as a low interest loan program called "Ready Access" which is for people and their families with disabilities. He also worked on the Smart Women Smart Money conference series.

"I am so proud of the work John has done," Topinka said. "He is a talented young man who has worked hard to give a voice to our office. His efforts have enabled the public to be informed about the great programs we offer."
