IL State Treasurer Seeks Nominations for Woman to Woman Awards

1/11/2006 - IL State Treasurer Seeks Nominations for Woman to Woman Awards

(Chicago) - Illinois residents are invited to nominate an outstanding woman or girl for State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka's fifth annual Woman to Woman: Making a Difference Awards, which will be presented at a special reception on March 30.

"I am very proud to sponsor the Woman to Woman: Making a Difference Awards again this year," Topinka said. "There are many strong female role models in our state who deserve to be recognized for their efforts."

The qualified nominee must be a female resident of Illinois who has made a tangible difference in the lives of other women or girls. While these efforts may be on a professional basis, preference will be given to women whose achievements were part of volunteer efforts.

To be considered, the nominee must have helped empower other women by being a positive role model, raising social awareness, promoting diversity, establishing opportunities for self-improvement, promoting positive intergroup relations, or establishing new and innovative programs.

Girls between the ages of 12-18 will be considered in a separate category. Nominations can also be submitted for small teams of women or girls if their accomplishment was the result of a team effort. Approximately 10 awards will be presented.

"I strongly encourage everyone to think about the women who have touched their lives," Topinka said. "This award is so special because it recognizes the positive impact women have made in our communities."

A one-to-two page narrative essay describing the significant accomplishments of the woman must accompany each nomination. No more than five additional pages of supportive materials, such as newspaper stories, may be included.

The deadline for nominations is March 1. More information is available by calling the Treasurer's Office at 312/814-1700. The nomination form, information about the awards, and past recipients can also be found at www.state.il.us/treas.
