| State Treasurer Topinka representative welcomes Polish Historians 2/12/2006 - Chicago-Lt. Col. James O'Rourke, Military Affairs Coordinator for the Office of the Illinois State Treasurer, represented State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka at a special lecture co-hosted by the Pritzker Military Library and the Consulate General of Poland, held at the Library on Jan. 20.
Polish Consul General Jaroslaw Lasinski and Edward Tracy, Executive Director of the Pritzker Library, introduced visiting Polish historians Jan Ciechanowski and Rafal Wnuk, members of the Anglo-Polish Historical Committee who presented the Committee's report on "Intelligence cooperation between Poland and Great Britain during World War II." Important accomplishments of Polish agents included the deciphering of the German encoding system Enigma and gathering vital intelligence information about V1 and V2 rocket production in Germany. The Polish intelligence network also cooperated closely with the American Office of Strategic Services (OSS), precursor of today's Central Intelligence Agency.
