CHICAGO - Wanda Majcher and Walter Mulica, two of Chicago's most active
Polish-American community leaders, will both receive Governor Blagojevich's
"People Are Today's Heroes" (PATH) Awards. Wanda Majcher, Executive
Director of the Copernicus Foundation, will be honored with a PATH Award for
her tireless efforts to raise awareness and promote the importance of breast
cancer in Chicago's Polish community, as well as her work with the
Governor's All Kids program and involvement in the Community Forum on
Education to promote new state initiatives expand access to preschool and
make college more affordable. Walter Mulica, President of Wally's
International Markets and Belmont Sausage Co., will receive a PATH Award for
his leadership and excellent service in the Polish community in Chicago and
his dedication to the Governor's All Kids program. Mr. Mulica's
instrumental work and commitment to All Kids have contributed to the
improvement of the availability of health care coverage to children in the
Polish community. Barry Maram, the Director of Illinois Healthcare and
Family Services, will be presenting the awards on behalf of the Governor.
The Governor's PATH Award recognizes groups or individuals who, through
their hard work and commitment, have improved the lives of those in their
community and have helped Illinois move forward in the areas of health care,
public safety, education and economic development.
