Emanuel Meets Delegation from Poland
Discusses Visa Waiver Program

CHICAGO, IL - U.S. Representative Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) met with Poland's
Chief of Staff to the President and Secretary of State Minister Elzbieta
Jakubiak. Minister Jakubiak was accompanied by Mr. Jan Oldakowski, Chairman
of the Parliament's Committee on Culture and National Heritage, Mr.
Kazimierz Kuberski, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Labor and
Social Policy, and Mr. Mariusz Handzlik, the Director of the Office of
Foreign Affairs in the Chancellery of the President to discuss the current
and future state of bilateral relations between both countries.

Minister Jakubiak and the delegation thanked Emanuel for introducing House
Resolution 1543, the Visa Waiver Modernization Act and for his continued
efforts to include Poland in the Visa Waiver Program. Minister Jakubiak also
thanked Emanuel for his commitment toward passing comprehensive immigration
reform.

"Poland is a first-class friend and should not be treated as a second-class
citizen," said Emanuel. "Modernizing the Visa Waiver Program is the best way
to provide our closest international partners the opportunity to travel to
the United States while simultaneously strengthening our security. I look
forward to a continued dialogue and partnership on improving our cultural
and economic ties between our nations."

Emanuel has been actively involved in recognizing and commemorating
important historical moments of Poland, among them, the Warsaw Uprising, the
Solidarity strikes in Poland, and the Independence and Constitution of
Poland. He has honored the memory of important Poles such as Casimir
Pulaski, Pope John Paul II, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, and Stanislaw Moniuszko.
