From July 28 through August 4, 2007, the Polish Folk Dance Association of the Americas (PFDAA), through its local affiliate, the WESOLY LUD Polish Folk Dance Ensemble of the PRCUA will host its 12th Polish Folk Dance Festival in Chicago, Illinois. The Festival includes workshops with Folk Dance Specialists from various regions of Poland to be held at Loyola University and a Gala Concert at Arie Crown Theater. The Festival nurtures the enthusiasm and increases the repertoire of the “amateur” dance ensembles; then showcases them for all to enjoy. The Festival in Chicago has attracted the interest of many of our friends: KRAKOWIAK DANCERS OF BOSTON (Boston, MA); KRAKOWIACY POLISH CHILDREN FOLK SONG & DANCE ENSEMBLE (Denver, CO); LECHICI DANCERS of the Polish Youth Association (Chicago, IL); MICHAS DANCERS (Virginia Beach, VA); POLONIA POLISH FOLK DANCE ENSEMBLE of the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America (Chicago, IL); POLISH AMERICAN FOLK DANCE COMPANY (Brooklyn, NY), POLISH FALCONS NEST 725 (Milwaukee, WI); POLISH HERITAGE DANCERS OF WESTERN NEW YORK (Buffalo, NY); POLISH SONG & DANCE ENSEMBLE “LAJKONIK” of the Polish National Alliance & Holy Trinity Parish (Chicago, IL); PRCUA ZAJACZEK DANCE ENSEMBLE (Sterling Heights, MI); SYRENA POLISH FOLK DANCE ENSEMBLE (Milwaukee, WI); WAWEL FOLK ENSEMBLE (Detroit, MI); WICI POLISH SONG & DANCE COMPANY of the Polish National Alliance (Chicago, IL) and the WESOŁY LUD POLISH FOLK DANCE ENSEMBLE of the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America (Chicago, IL). Together with the Women’s Department of PRCUA, Wesoly Lud organized the last such Festival in Chicago in 1982 under the auspices of the ACPC.
In addition to the POLISH FOLK DANCE ASSOCIATION OF THE AMERICAS, the Festival is sponsored by the following: KANCELARIA SENATU RZECZYPOSPOLITEJ POLSKI, STOWARZYSZENIE WSPOLNOTA POLSKA, ILLINOIS ARTS COUNCIL, POLISH ROMAN CATHOLIC UNION OF AMERICA, POLISH NATIONAL ALLIANCE, LEGION OF YOUNG POLISH WOMEN, PRCUA SOCIETY 1634, B&D LOAN SERVICES, INC., KESTLER GRAPHICS, GREAT STEAKS & MORE, POLAMER, ZWIAZEK SLAZAKOW POLNOCNEJ AMERYKI, WESOLY LUD POLISH FOLK DANCE ENSEMBLE and CONSUL GENERAL OF THE REPUBLIC OF POLAND IN CHICAGO.
Polish Folk Dance Ensembles adorn our Polish social events, embody the beauty of a rich culture, educate our children about Poland’s history and geography and are the best marketing tool in the diverse ethnic culture of America, especially in prime Polish American cities like Chicago. The value of these groups is immeasurable to the perpetuation of Poland’s heritage.
