SZOPKA: The Krakow Christmas Manger Workshop set for Sept. 23 and Christmasville Display during the holiday season.
On Sunday, September 23, 2007 Barbara Frackiewicz and Judy Krauza, this area's leading Polish Folk Artists will conduct a workshop entitled "INTRODUCTION TO SZOPKA MAKING: THE KRAKOW CHRISTMAS MANGER" at the Opera House Studio, 11 W. Main St. in Lancaster, NY from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The workshop will include a slide presentation consisting of the history of the Krakow Manger, architecture of Krakow, and seeing a master builder at work. Demonstration of materials used and construction
Techniques will be shown and handouts will also be given to participants. The cost is $8 per person or $15 per family (children 8 - 17 only). Then use your creative skills and construct your own family heirloom and showcase them in the Christmasville Windows along Central Ave. this Christmas season. Rules & Guidelines: This is not a competition. Any individual or group is invited to participate. This can be done by an individual, family, organization, or class. Szopkas must be portable, lightweight & stable. Maximum size - 25" wide x 25" tall, Minimum of (2) levels, Minimum of (2) towers, must use recycled or found objects in some part of construction, May include electric lights or moving parts.Deadline for registration: Oct. 21, 2007
All Szopkas must be delivered to the Lancaster Opera House
Nov. 10, 2007 - Between the hours of 9 am - 1 pm.
