POLISH AMERICAN CONGRESS LAUNCHES LONG ISLAND CHAPTER 4/3/2003 - The Downstate New York Division of the Polish American Congress announced its expansion to the suburbs with the creation of a chapter to represent Long Island's Nassau and Suffolk counties. Currently based in New York City, it will be the first time the Division ever started an affiliate like this. Frank Milewski, who heads the New York organization, sprung the surprise announcement at the March 31st luncheon held at Greenpoint's Polish & Slavic Center to welcome the PAC's national president, Edward J. Moskal on his visit there. The Center has just celebrated its 30th anniversary serving the interest of the Polish American Community in that area. Attending the luncheon for Mr. Moskal were representatives of several Polish American organizations from
Long Island who will be part of the new chapter. Mr. Moskal was pleased to hear the news about the expansion and wished the best of luck to the Downstate Division. One of the main objectives of the new chapter will be to unite and make the Polish Americans in New York City and on Long Island a more visible and a more powerful political force, according to Chet Szarejko who chairs the Downstate N.Y.'s Political Activities committee. We already started achieving this goal among many of the city's political leaders and government officials. Joining with Long Island will give Polonia a bigger clout, he said. The Polish American Congress presently has three divisions in New York State: Downstate, Central and Western.
